View from Cafe del Mar
The Café del Mar was the perfect spot to begin the day after having had this marvellous breakfast at the Residence. Hello to Signor Gianni whose hospitality and beautiful house was a feast for the eyes and in the morning for the nose as the sweet pastry smelled extremely well. Below is a foto of me sketching the houses from my comfortable position at the Café.

Bacino San Giorgio, Gallipoli
The circular city centre of old Gallipoli can be reached through the harbour parking and one connection street. All is very close. These smaller boats are in a tiny harbour called Bacino San Giorgio. Below you see me sketching.

Gallipoli - La Riviera
On the way to Gallipoli you drive through a country full of olive trees. Some of which are very very old. On this Sketch you see a part of the fortified city centre of Gallipoli which is nearly completely surrounded by the sea. The best way to explore Gallipoli is to leave the car on the big harbour parking and enter the city walls by foot.

Monopoli Harbour
This is the view to Monopoli harbour from our position at the shore across where you can swim and snorkel in the beautiful blue sea. The water is extremely clear and attractive and there is a nice café up the stairs... This ship was being unloaded, when I sketched it. The fortified old City Centre of Monopoli could easily be visited by foot. Everything is very close and the restaurants offer local delicacies.

Azurro
Blue seems to be the dominant colour in Puglia: The sea, the sky, the chairs and even the beer is called Nastro Azurro.

Old Town Monopoli
This one is drawn directly from the city beach of Monopoli direction center of the old town. The shutters were green and the houses mainly white or of a light yellow ocre tone.

Bari
We landed in Bari and drove further to the beautiful old town of Monopoli. In the old City Center nearly all houses seemed to be built of a beautiful white stone and nearly all boats were blue. No cars werde allowed in the city centre with its narrow streets and squares. Our first point of interest was the beach.

Puglia
I just came back from a trip to Puglia, Italy. I had a new spiral bound sketchbook and my Windsor & Newton watercolour travel kit with me. I am quite satisfied how the colors behaved on this rather thin sketchbook paper.

Red train
Same place, different time.
Gleicher Ort, andere Zeit.
-----
From tomorrow on I will post my Travel Sketchbook of my lastest Trip to Puglia, Italy - for us a very far away part of Italy. I met nice and helpful people, saw beautiful ancient cities, lots of ships and harbours and eat marvellous, authentic food and don't forget the cerulean blue sea - and the espresso! I had the opportunity to sketch a lot on old balconies, in different Cafés, on the beach, from roof terraces, etc...
All in all the perfect holiday! So stay tuned for my Sketches to come in the next few days...

Painting with Sarah
My niece Sarah is very talented in drawing...and she has very good ideas in what to draw... she told me that she wanted to draw Mrs. Merkel and that's what she did:
