Leisure forest drawing with coloured pencils and watercolour.
Enjoying summer time.
My Sunday leisure painting shows a sluice and its surroundings au Canal du Midi.
The water in this one is very calm so I played with colours to make it more interesting. Did you know that the reflected objects in the water are mostly darker than the object itself?
Thank you Judith for providing this photo for week 84. J'adore.
Our weekly artclub featured some of my photos as prompts that week. The subject is Sicily, Segesta.
I love the place which is more inland, but you can see the sea from far. The ancient temple and the higher up amphitheatre are a must see. Here comes the entrance to the theatre:
I am quite happy with both watercolours as they convey the feel of the site.
The muted colours in the original promt from Cappadocia, sent from our Landscape Club, were not so easy to achieve for me, as I have too bright colours in my mind...;)
This is a Saturday morning coffee sketch - quite fast.
See my colour choice at the side.
We were sketching a landscape of our beloved Landscape Club. Our new subject was Ireland in week 72. I had fun working quite wet this time. The colours blended well. The calmness of the landscape and river is a pleasure. I made some colour swatches, which colours I used for this one.
Natalia sent some awesome pictures of Kairo Egypt which we all painted in our Club. Above you can see my two small sketches of the pyramids. I can still feel the hot Egyptian sun on my skin as I think back to my travels.
Saturday morning, Natalias prompt is already online and I remembered that I still had some 640 gms paper from a goodie bag. I wanted to sketch this as a wet-in-wet landscape. This very thick paper can bear it. Really fast and not many details. Ok, done. This was a good Saturday morning start while sipping my first week-end coffee...
Here is another seascape from close to Cefalu. The huge boulders are wonderful to paint. The stairs lead to a bathing place.
The days were cold in the beginning spring, so I decided to sketch some smaller landscapes in the studio, before heading out to sketch in the exterior. In contrary, my RIVERDRAWING Project is done outside. See www.bettinaruppert.de/blog
Dieses Frühjahr sind die Tage noch sehr kalt, also entschied ich mich einige kleine Landschaften im Studio zu malen. Mein Projekt "RIVERDRAWINGS" findet aber draussen statt, siehe www.bettinaruppert.de/blog
As a contrast to the winter weather hereabouts, are some colourful waterlilies from a pond in Dortmund. Love the highly granulating watercolours and the play of contrasting colours.
Memory of the beach close to Cefalu in Sicily with the beautiful stones covered with extremely green moss.
Again the supergranulating colours were playing a big role in this watercolour. For painting sea, stones and sky they were very useful and I fell in love with "glacier green" which I used for the water.
Made myself a "fun-palette" with my favourites.
As a garden fan, I was very pleased to see Amandas beautiful prompt. It features Rosalys Garden in Petersborough and was awesome to give another try to some of the granulating colours I bought lately.
For the sky I used glacier blue and glacier turquoise. As I used a grain fin, cold pressed paper, the effect is not as strong as on grain torchon, but it was fun to try some new stuff again.
Amanda sent several lovely prompts for St. Barbara Botanic Garden and I had to sketch two of them because I found them so beautiful. Great landscape sketching fun.
It was our last meeting before the summer holidays began and we met in Eckartshausen close to the beautiful train station.
Originally I wanted to draw the station itself, but it was so hot and I did not find the right spot in the shade. Therefore I drew the BAG building opposite and sat in a nice shady spot by the station. The building is like a depot to all farmers in the area and therefore a very important distributor. On my painting you could see a fence and some goods that are stored behind.
Lots of lovely talks in between with passers-by. Great spot, will return soon again.
(If you would like to join our Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe meetups, have a look at fb group of URBAN SKETCHERS HOHENLOHE and enter the group for getting info about when we meet next after the holidays)
Here is another double spread landscape, I painted together with Amanda and our landscape art friends. I used a toned sketchbook, watercolour, gouache and coloured pencils.
This sketch shows a landscape in Riggins, Idaho. It is an espresso sketch,... very fast ...about as long as you need to drink an espresso in the morning...
This time the prompts were so appealing to me, that I painted another one of them with rocks and a waterfall. Drawing the agitated water was a great challenge. I love it! If I only had more time, I would paint them all!
What a fantastic weather for one of our sketchmeets in the beginning of June.
My A3 sketch was a very fast one and I still had time to sketch some wild flowers which grew abundantly around the watersource of Gründischer Brunnen. I was quite sure that it would be a very calm place - but it wasn't. There was a coming and going, nice talks and some people entered the Kneipp-area a bit to the right of my point of view.
The grey herons would only come, if there were no people, but there are lots of them in the area.
What a great fun you can have with some colours in two hours time...
