In the end of October the weather was still great for biking around. I managed to get a sketch down close to Frankenhardt. There were different greens everywhere and in the distance the mist came crawling in. What a colourful sight!

What a fantastic weather for one of our sketchmeets in the beginning of June.
My A3 sketch was a very fast one and I still had time to sketch some wild flowers which grew abundantly around the watersource of Gründischer Brunnen. I was quite sure that it would be a very calm place - but it wasn't. There was a coming and going, nice talks and some people entered the Kneipp-area a bit to the right of my point of view.
The grey herons would only come, if there were no people, but there are lots of them in the area.
What a great fun you can have with some colours in two hours time...
Sunday walk at the water source called "Gründischer Brunnen" in Speltach Valley, which is a source of clear mineral water.
It looks somehow like a large mirror of fresh water inmidst a naturally preserved area. It is about 7 metres deep and you could surround the pond on wooden planks.
Another day, another walk. At the time, I painted this watercolour we have had a lot of rainfall before and the soil was very wet. Close to Gründelhardt there were small temporary ponds in the grass and the fields. A few white and grey herons strutted over the place and seemed to have fun with these temporary wetlands.
I actually liked the atmosphere too as the blue sky with some clouds and closeby bushes were reflected in the water everywhere I looked.
Spent a cold late afternoon in my forest in order to paint a fast A3 watercolour "Contre-Jour" of one of my favourite places in Burgberg forest. It is already getting dark quite early and most of the trees lost their leaves. A bit of preparation is needed, before the sun begins to set. In the end I just had to paint the dark values and the shadows. This is painting fun in the month of November.
There is a trail at the edge of the forest close to one of my favourite places a bit uphill.
What I was interested in on this day was the shadows in the hedgerow by the street.
Here is another sketch from mid-march, as it was still rainy and very cold. I painted in a white pentalic sketchbook.
After having made lots of white and blue snow sketches, the landscape now looks green and brown. The temperatures are getting higher and that day I made a walk below Burgberg forest we already had 10 ° Celsius. The soil was a bit muddy, but I found a piece of wood I could sit on for this fast sketch. I sort of tried to squeeze in everything around me, therefore the fence to my right is also in the sketch, although you would never have seen it in a photo. That is the magic in art, you are free to draw and create in your own way.

During lockdown a daily walk in my surrounding area was necessary for keeping my lazy body moving somehow and again I found a beautiful place by the beavers creek I wanted to draw. It was already late in the afternoon, some time before sundown and the long grasses looked like they were on fire with the late afternoon sun. The white of the melting snow is a cold contrast to the warmth of the trees, the soil and the grasses.
Another watercolour of Beaver-Creek: HERE
A little walk close to the forest in Frankenhardt. I discovered an old barn which made a nice contrast to the very white winter landscape. On a clear day you could see Burgberg tower in the distance. Not today. In this kind of weather it is fun to get outside and it is even better to bring home some nice subjects for drawing.
