Malen in der Brauerei

 

Wolfgang und ich hatten uns vor der Covid-Zeit ausgedacht, alle Brauereien im Umkreis zu malen. 

Das Projekt lag dann jedoch jahrelang auf Eis, aber natürlich nicht aus unseren Köpfen. Endlich gelang uns der Start dieses Vorhabens.

Wir bekamen durch Wolfgangs Kontakte zur Haller Löwenbrauerei die Möglichkeit dort im sehr interessanten Innenbereich zu malen. Herr Hägele war so nett uns die Vorgänge zu erklären und nach einen kleinen Führung durch das grosse, moderne Gebäude konnten wir mit unseren Farben loslegen und die Umgebung skizzieren.

Mich interessierten vor allem die grossen Stahltanks und die Raumperspektive über zwei Stockwerke hinweg.

Es sind ganz wunderbare Werke von Wolfgang, Andrea, Adelheid und Jutta entstanden und wir schlossen den Tag bei einem drink&draw im Sudhaus standesgemäss ab.

Here is what I drew at the Löwen brewery in Schwäbisch Hall, where we were invited to paint. Thank you to Mr. Hägele and his team for having us. 

I was very interested in the large steeltanks and the room perspective.

My fellow painters Wolfgang, Andrea, Adelheid and Jutta also painted some very beautiful artworks.

The day ended at Sudhaus for a drink&draw session.

Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe - Sketching in Ilshofen

 

My day was very hektik and I was really not in the mood to go somewhere else after work, but I had promised to come and never cancel if I am not ill. 

As soon as I met the others of the group and sat down to sketch, all the hektik fell off and I was so happy that I came. We had such a fun time sitting in the sun, relaxing, chatting and sketching in Ilshofen centre. Lot's of nice people and talks and even mayor Blessing came by. What a lovely USk outing again. Thanks to all participants.

Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe at Gründischer Brunnen, Frankenhardt

 

What a fantastic weather for one of our sketchmeets in the beginning of June. 

My A3 sketch was a very fast one and I still had time to sketch some wild flowers which grew abundantly around the watersource of Gründischer Brunnen. I was quite sure that it would be a very calm place - but it wasn't. There was a coming and going, nice talks and some people entered the Kneipp-area a bit to the right of my point of view. 

 

The grey herons would only come, if there were no people, but there are lots of them in the area.

What a great fun you can have with some colours in two hours time...
 

Sketching in Dinkelsbühl

 

Paula and I went to Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria for a day and did some sketching, walking, eating and shopping...here are the two sketches I managed to do there:

Dann ging es ab nach Dinkelsbühl zum sketchen, shoppen, essen... ich hab es geschafft zwei Aquarellskizzen zu machen.

Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe: Frühlingsblüte

 

The weather looked promising, but cold on our last USk meeting in Gründelhardt. We wanted to sketch spring flowers. Lovely that we could stay at Keim's for our painting adventure. 

My focus was on the little pond and the many daffodils which are currently in full bloom. After 1,5 hours it became quite cold and we stopped a bit earlier, than we expected to stay. Thank you to my dear sketching companions.

Das Wetter sah gut aus, es war jedoch etwas kühl an unserem USk Maltreffen in Gründelhardt. Wir wollten die Frühlingsblüte einfangen. Schön, dass wir uns bei Keim auf dem Gelände der Baumschule frei bewegen konnten. Motive gab es genügend. 

 Ich hatte mir den kleinen Springbrunnen (war leider noch nicht an) vorgenommen und war auch interessiert an den Narzissen, die sehr üppig blühten. Nach gut 1,5 h war es dann doch etwas kühl und wir hörten etwas früher auf, als geplant. Danke an meine Malfreunde.

USk Hohenlohe - Meeting in Gaggstatt - Jugendstil in Hohenlohe

 

Our little group of Urban Sketchers planned to meet in Gaggstatt for sketching the fantastic Jugendstil church there. I was there a few weeks ago to check the location and did three fast sketches into my A5 sketchbook in really good weather.

By then I was attracted by the tiny figures at the front gate and sketched one of them.

 

Then I went to the side of the building and tried to do one of the towers from a  weird position, which was quite fun with just a splash of sky into my sketchbook.

 

As we met now in November, it was a very cold and overcast day. Jutta said we had 3 degrees Celsius. She brought herself some hot coffee, which was clever. We had hat and gloves and blankets for not freezing too much. Andrea came too, but sadly she did not stay long. 

I like the architecture of the church and the story behind it. It is also worth looking inside. It is beautiful. Here is the architectural story: HERE

I decided to sketch from the back side of the building on my A3 blog and made my pencil sketch first:

My thoughts at that time: Which colour combination would be useful for this very grey sky? I chose a mix of cerulean and siena with a dab of violet. I put down my first wash. In this fall weather the colour needed endlessly to dry. 

 

After a bit more than an hour I was frozen to the bone and so were my fellow painters. We went inside the church, but did not draw any more. A good place to come back in warm weather to explore it further. 

 What a cool experience.

 

Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe - An der Schmerachklinge

I am still at Schmerachklinge close to Oberscheffach.

My goal was to draw river Schmerach and the natural environment with trees, stones, water...

Surely there is an old barn close to the parking and it feels like being on holiday as you could bath at least your feet in the small river.

I just drew some stones and I tried a dark blue coloured pencil which was not watercolourable for my preliminary drawing and added watercolour later.
Thought this might suit better the contrasts, than a less dark normal pencil.

The movement of the water in the upper middleground was the most important for me in this drawing.

Ich befinde mich am Wanderparkplatz Schmerachklinge bei Oberscheffach.

Ziel war es für mich den kleinen Fluss Schmerach und die natürliche Umgebung mit Ästen, Bäumen, Steinen, Wasser usw. zu malen. Natürlich gab es auch eine alte Scheune in der Nähe und die Umgebung fühlte sich tatsächlich etwas urlaubsmässig an, denn man hätte auch sein Handtuch ausbreiten, oder zumindest ein wenig die Füße ins Wasser hängen können. 

Für mein Steine-Bild testete ich einen dunkelblauen Farbstift, der nicht mit Wasser anlösbar ist und der besser, als ein normaler Bleistift für die starken Kontraste, die es hier in der Umgebung hat geeignet ist. 

Die Bewegung des Wassers darzustellen (oberer Mittelgrund) war für mich hier der wichtigste Part in diesem Bild.

Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe an der Geislinger Mühle (Kocher)

 


By now I know the small streets to Geislingen by heart and do not get lost anymore in this area of Hohenlohe. Here you absolutely need a car to meet for sketching as Hohenlohe is quite vast with lots of tiny cities that still need to be sketched by us. 

Today we met in Geislingen at the mill directly close to river Kocher. 

I was the first to arrive and looked around the mill and opposite the mill was a very big barn with a rusty blue trailer. It was filled with round hay bailes on top. While I was wondering for myself what yellow tone to use for hay bales I already knew that this would be my subject for this afternoon. 

Jutta came around the corner, installed herself a few metres besides me and sketched the same view. As Katharina came we were already sketching the trailer and Katharina did the same from an other angle.

A very relaxed place in the shade and another beautiful "urban sketching" afternoon in our "not so urban" countryside.

Jetzt weiss ich schon jeden Weg in Richtung Geislingen auswendig und kenne mich in dieser abgelegenen Gegend besser aus. Hier braucht man auch auf jeden Fall ein Auto, um sich in den kleinen verstreuten Ortschaften mit den anderen Urban Sketchern zu treffen, denn das Gebiet ist relativ gross und es gibt noch sehr viele Orte, die wir malen möchten.

Heute also trafen wir uns an der Geislinger Mühle direkt am Kocher. Als erste am Zielort, schaute ich mich um und sah sehr schöne Plätze am Wasser und rund um die Mühle, aber als ich direkt vor der Mühle stand fiel mir die grosse Scheune gegenüber auf, unter deren Vordach ein rostiger, alter Anhänger mit Heu stand. Bereits als ich überlegte, in welcher Farbe ich das Heu malen würde, war mir klar, das es dieses Motiv sein musste. Ich setzte mich und während ich auspackte kam auch schon Jutta um die Ecke, die sich wenige Meter von mir niederließ, um dasselbe Motiv aus einem etwas anderen Winkel zu malen. Als Katharina ankam waren wir bereits bei der Vorzeichnung und auch sie war von dem alten Anhänger mit Heu angetan. 

Ein sehr entspannter Platz im Schatten war das bei unserem "Urban-Sketching"-Nachmittag in unserer nicht ganz so "urbanen" Gegend.

USk Hohenlohe - und wieder Kirchberg an der Jagst

There is still my panorama I sketched from a car parking below the city. I did not get the whole castle on my A3 paper. There are some buildings to the right which are missing.  Maybe I will colour it next time.


So far I covered a lot of places of scenic Kirchberg and am happy about my collection. It was great fun with my companions from Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe and we will continue soon with other places in our area to visit and sketch. Stay tuned...

Hier ist noch meine Panorama-Skizze von Kirchberg, die ich vom Parkplatz unterhalb der Stadt gemalt habe. Obwohl es ein A3 Blatt ist, habe ich das Schloss rechts nicht mehr komplett draufbekommen. Vielleicht mach ich die Skizze beim nächsten Mal noch in Farbe.

Jetzt habe ich bereits einige schöne Plätze in Kirchberg gemalt und freu mich über meine üppige Bildersammlung. Es war schön mit unserer kleinen Urban Sketchers Hohenlohe Truppe hier zu malen und bald werden wir andere Plätze in der Gegend erkunden. Bis dahin...

USk Hohenlohe - Kirchberg an der Jagst, Part 2

These are my afternoon sketches of the Hohenlohe sketchmeet in Kirchberg.
The following drawings are a combination of different smaller drawings on the A3 page like in a sketchbook (my block is my sketchbook btw).

Here is the full page spread. The drawing with the tower of around 14th century is made from a comforable seat in the Hofgarten where you can have a good view on lots of the old buildings.

I had lots of time in the late afternoon here, as my car broke down and I had to wait for assistance...plenty of time for drawing.

A very positive and successful sketching day.



Teil II: Die Bilder sind auf einer A3 Seite kombiniert (der A3 Block ist wie ein Skizzenbuch für mich). Das Bild mit dem Turm aus dem 14. Jhd wurde von einer komfortablen Bank im Hofgarten aus gemalt. Von dort aus hat man auch einen Blick auf einige alte Häuschen, die sich hinter verschiedenen Hecken befinden.

Ich hatte sehr viel Zeit an diesem Nachmittag, denn mein Auto sprang nicht mehr an und ich musste auf Hilfe warten....das bedeutet viel Zeit zum Malen. 

Das war ein sehr schöner Tag zum draussen Malen.
