Herbstblumenstrauß

Watercolour class is on again. We paint different subjects every Monday after work. This time it was a fall flower bouquet. It was quite fun to do the vase in another technique with ink and foam to create the marble pattern. Great fun and great mud...no Sunday clothing required for that one;0)

To the left you see the different steps I did.

First the Vase, then I left out the flowers in the beginning (negative painting) in order to give them just a slight amount of colour in the end...all other things like leaves and background are painted mostly wet in wet.

The three first fotos seem darker, as they were shot in the evening. The last and upper big one were shot with daylight.

My paper was a 300 g which is good for wet-in-wet-technique.

People at Work: At the Farmers Market

My second watercolour painting of my current studio subject "People at Work" shows a young vendor at the farmers market.

People at Work: Ice Cream Parlour, Heilbronn

As I took the photo in Heilbronn I already knew that this one would be fun to paint. The servant was about to clean the glass within the shop. This will be the first one of my 30 x 40 paintings of "people at work".

Brezel & Laugen-Weckle

My late breakfast at work. Used a bit too dark tones today. Maybe because of lack of sun and winter mood.

The street was wet from the rain and the dark clouds moved away behind Fichtenhaus. The sun already peaked out which made for light greenish and brownish colours in the foreground.
This was a fast one on small postcard size format.

Guten-Morgen-Brezel

The week started well and I sit and draw my morning Pretzel and eat it afterwards. Could it come better? Yes. Today I will get some new colour and paper for my coming workshop and I like it to get parcels. I will report about it in a separate article.

Laugen-Weckle

A Day with lovely "Laugen-Weckle" for my late breakfast painting. They are made of the same dough as the Pretzels - it is just another form. This week went so fast and I am tired whereas the colours of my drawing burst of energetic colours. New ideas come up. Happy week-end everybody.

Pretzel-Mania

Today i went a bit crazy with the colours and I like it. The pretzel was such a treat. I would love to do (and eat) some more... but work first.

My todays Pretzel is half way out of the bag. I used a lot of turquoise which melts wonderfully with the brownish colours. Now I have a bite...and some work to do.

One Pretzel a day...

My todays pause was late in the morning as there is a lot to do at work. My funny distraction was this very fast pretzel before I continue my work again.

The colours went a bit crazy on my wet paper - I had to hurry - and this sometimes makes for a better result.

Brezelwoche

Right before the sweet stuff for Christmas is coming I yesterday decided to have a Pretzel-week this week and paint my morning Pretzel. Why that? Because I wanted to use my breakfast pause for drawing and the Pretzels are so neat from our traditional bakery next door. I enjoy their Pretzels during my workweek and like that I could use the so beloved warm fall colours of browns, oranges and yellows again...(does that make sense?)

I already did another Pretzel in March: HERE

Fall Colours

When I came back from Italy the temperatures where modest and as the weather was sunny the cold in the mornings and evenings did not matter to me at all. Here is a view of a place I come by nearly every day on my way to work (I bike most of the time to work). It was in the early morning, 4°C - very cold, but so beautiful with the early morning sun and the long cast shadows. I was already a bit late, but am happy to have taken a photo. In the evening I had to paint it in watercolour as I love the autumn colours with their browns, reds, yellows and greens.

I already did a similar view in black ink and coloured pencils: HERE

French House

While I am away I post this older watercolour of a French house in Normandy. But no, I am not in France, my destination is bella Italia. More about that shortly.

BTW: We had the first snow yesterday!

Autumn landscape with mist in the distance. We still have warm autumn weather, but in the nights are getting colder. This makes for beautiful misty landscapes in the mornings and evenings.

A typical country road in Hohenlohe...Yesterday I was too lazy to draw - can you believe that -  so I post an older drawing today. Tomorrow is a public holiday in Germany. Nice to have a break inmidst the week.

Sonnenblume

In between some sunflowers from my garden. Everything dried away this summer as it did not rain enough in my area.

Visited Comburg close to Schwäbisch Hall with a friend. I shall come back to draw as there is a lot to see here. This one was done with the help of a photo as we did not stay long enough.

Below is how I started:

Another beautiful thing happened yesterday. I received a parcel from Portugal from my friend Hélio who is so generous to me. The watercolour block of Arches is super and will come with me to my next watercolour trip and I am so deeply honoured having received the beautiful Laloran Sketchbook from the Sketch Tour Portugal to try out. How lucky I am!

The Sketch Tour Portugal for Hélio was a tour all over the Algarve Region of Portugal. Hélio is the head of the Algarve Urban Sketchers. He and fellow urban sketcher Roisin Cure from Ireland had a good sketching week together with the commitment to do about 6 sketches a day each and travel through the Algarve. Here is Hélios first posts on the adventure (if needed use the translator on his page).

Flieder

My lilacs were in full bloom this year. The smell is absolutely great and the colours are as well.

Pentalic:

to the left the new book, to the right the book with loose sheets
Yesterday there was a nice surprise in my mailbox: Elke from Pentalic was so generous and sent me a Pentalic Aqua Journal in exchange to the one with the binding problem (loose sheets that fell out of the square Aqua Journal - see my post here). The new one is a landscape format with real binding - not glueing - and I am looking forward to do direct watercolours on this fantastic paper again. I am happy and thank Elke for the very good customer service.

Frühjahrsduft liegt in der Luft

The weather was so good to us and the trees and flowers are blooming. There is a very good smell in the air and the land is very green at the moment. I love this time of year as it is plein air season. Monday is a public holiday so we will have a long week-end.

The rape is in full bloom and it smells quite strong in the sunshine if you go by. I could draw forewer on a good day like this with the beauty around me and the sunshine on my skin.
