Ninas Christmas Cookies

 

My friend Nina, made me a great gift of her wonderful christmas cookies. They taste wonderful and look fantastic. I already sketched them separately last year. This time I thought it would be nice to sketch them on different plates.

 

 

Btw. tested some sheets of paper I had from a goodie bag for this purpose. 

Happy with the result on all sheets, as the colours worked well and several layers were easily possible.

Quince & Apple from Heroldhausen

 

 

Made a fast watercolour sketch of the quince and an apple after my workshop. 

Most of my participants joined in, which was quite cool.

Erntetag / Harvest

 

This subject came straight from the garden. Bio quality ;)

I painted the nicely harvested plums and pears which looked so appealing in their wooden box.  Btw playing with the background was great fun, too and I tried to imitate the newspaper inside the box without really writing...just some fun sign...

 

One last sketch with Paula and some joint art

When Paula was here time flew by even faster than normal. 

Here is one sketch I forgot to post with some strawberries we eat at one of our home breakfasts. It is a fast sketch, so no extra chichi-details...and we tried some of my stamps with it...

Backutensilien

 

Flour, milk, butter, eggs, salt etc. are always available in my kitchen. I wanted to sketch them in direct watercolour. The walnuts to the left matched perfectly.

Mehl, Milch, Butter, Eier, Salz und Hefe, sind die Backutensilien, die immer im Haus sind. Diese alltäglichen Back-Helfer wollte ich heute mal in direktem Aquarell malen. Die Walnüsse links passten da gut dazu.

Croissants

 

These croissants are something I dream of, as they were filled with pistacchio cream. I had these in Sicily. Fantastic stuff.

Von diesen Croissants träume ich, während ich sie male, denn die waren mit Pistaziencreme gefüllt und ich kenne sie aus Sizilien. Tolles Gebäck.

Mood of the day sketch - what will I sketch & cook today?

 

Cooking is something I really like and if you have simple, good ingredients it all happens easily. Still had a fresh "Blätterteig" (dough) in my fridge and planned to make a pie, filled with broccoli, onions, garlic and spring onions with a bit of gruyere cheese and sourcream. Yummi...but first the drawing then the cooking!!!

Kochen ist etwas, das ich tatsächlich sehr gerne tue. Man braucht nur gute, einfache Zutaten und alles läuft...der frische Blätterteig war noch im Kühlschrank und ich wollte einen Pie machen, der mit Broccoli, Frühlingszwiebeln, Zwiebeln, Knobi und etwas Gruyere mit saurer Sahne gefüllt war. Sehr lecker....aber zuerst die Zutaten malen und dann kommt das Kochen!!!

Mood of the day sketch - Süsse Sachen

 

Just a small sketch today of my sweets I love to eat with an extra hot cup of espresso. Fantastic and the little almond cakes remind me of Sicily. Dreaming is possible. Have a lovely Pentecost weekend.

Nur eine kleine Skizze von meinen süssen Sachen, die ich zum extraheißen, duftenden Espresso dazuesse. Fantastisch. Die kleinen Mandelkekse erinnern mich an Sizilien. Ein bischen Träumen is ja möglich. Schönes Pfingstwochenende.

Mood of the day sketch - chicken soup

 

The cold weather in mid-february made me cook a chicken soup. A few ingredients are in my fast sketch.

Das kalte Wetter im Februar war perfekt für eine heisse Hühnersuppe. Ein paar der Zutaten sind in meiner schnellen Skizze festgehalten.

Fig Tree

My little fig tree sometimes has small figs, but they do not really ripen in our climate. 

Mein kleiner Feigenbaum hat manchmal Früchte, aber in unserem Klima werden diese leider nicht richtig reif.

Again Strawberries

The strawberries I bought today looked so good, that again I had to draw them before I eat them.

Die Erdbeeren, die ich heute gekauft habe, musste ich unbedingt wieder malen, bevor ich sie aß.

Strawberries for Breakfast

Today I prepared some strawberries for breakfast and did not eat all of them (although they were so good) as I had the idea to paint them in watercolour. Below you can see how I started.

Zum Frühstück habe ich mir heute einige Erdbeeren vorbereitet, aber nicht alle gegessen, denn die sahen so gut aus, dass ich sie malen wollte. Im zweiten Bild sieht man, wie ich mit der Aquarellfarbe begonnen habe.

Greedy

This lemon tart tasted fantastic. I seem to be greedy, ... and enjoyed every bite. 

As for drawing, a colour I rarely use is light turquoise, which I used here for the background. I thought it would fit very well with the yellow-orange of the tart. I darkened the shadow parts with ultramarine.

Diese Zitronentart war super. Scheinbar bin ich ganz schön verfressen...aber ich kann sagen, dass ich jeden Bissen genossen habe.

Was das Malen angeht habe ich heute eine Farbe benutzt, die ich sonst nicht so oft einsetze und das ist ein helles Türkis für den Hintergrund. Die Farbe macht sich gut zu den gelb-orangenen Partien des Törtchens. Die Schattenpartien habe ich mit Ultramarin abgedunkelt. 

Zeit für eine Zimtschnecke

I forgot to post my cinnamon bun which I had at the Swedish Café in Vellberg already longer ago. 

I first drew it in watercolour into my sketchbook and then eat it. It was so delicious.

Ich habe bemerkt, dass ich die Zimtschnecke vom Schwedencafé Vellberg noch gar nicht gepostet habe. Das ist bereits wieder längere Zeit her gewesen.

Zuerst malte ich das Aquarell ins Skizzenbuch und dann aß ich die Zimtschnecke. Das schmeckte so gut.

Cherry cake and first week of #uskathome

Still have a sketch from my time before I went to Madeira. It is a cherry cake with streusel which I did not post so far.  I could use all my fancy pink watercolours for this. 

This is our first week at home in Germany as schools and most  companies are closed. We are doing good.  We will not geht bored. There are lots of things that can be done around the house without any contact to others. This might be the advantage of living in the countryside. We wish all friends to stay healthy. 

Found  a few sketches from before, when  outside sketching with friends was still possible and will post them in the next few days. Btw you can post your homesketches on #uskathome

Vor Madeira habe ich bereits dieses Aquarell von einem Kirsch-Streuselkuchen gemacht, den ich vergessen hatte zu posten. Für das Bild konnte ich all meine fancy Pinktöne verwenden. 

Geburtstagsparty

There was a big birthday party not so much time ago. We had very good food, danced a lot and guess what: They had Schwarzwälder-Kirsch Tart again. Really funny so I had to draw that one, too, which is a little bit different in style as it was square.

Vor kurzem war ich zu einer grossen Geburtstagsparty eingeladen. Wir hatten gutes Essen und tanzten, aber ratet mal, was es als Kuchen gab: Natürlich auch Schwarzwälder-Kirschtorte. Dieses Mal in kleinen rechteckigen Stücken.

Kirschtörtchen

Although there are no ripe cherries at the moment locally, I invented them for making my little cherry tart look more delicious and fresh. This is the fun of drawing as you can change things or draw them the way you want them to look like. Some kind of artists freedom. 

Obwohl es gerade keine reifen Kirschen gibt, habe ich sie auf mein Törtchen gemalt, damit es irgendwie frischer aussieht. Der Spaß beim Malen besteht unter anderem auch darin, dass man die Motive so aussehen lassen kann, wie man sie gerne haben möchte. Das ist die künstlerische Freiheit.

I am so happy that I can eat cake and I very much like to draw it. No diet, I bike, so no worries about my weight. Drawing cakes is much better in my opinion than drawing hot food stuff, as the cake remains the same quality if you sketch it and eat afterwards.

I already drew the same kind of Frankfurter Kranz some time ago. This time not the whole cake, but only a piece. Bon appetit.

Mann bin ich froh, dass ich Kuchen essen kann und mir macht es Spaß sie zu malen. Diäten sind nichts für mich, ich fahre Fahrrad. Kuchen malen ist viel besser, als warmes Essen zu malen, denn der Kuchen wird nicht kalt.

Ich habe schon einmal einen Frankfurter Kranz gemalt. Dieses Mal ist es nur ein Stück. Also dann...guten Appetit.

Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte

Schwarzwälder Kirchtorte means in english: Black Forest Cherry Tart. 
It seems that I love cakes in nearly any shape and colour. For the cherries in this cake I could use a lot of different red and pink tones. The paper I used was rough which is to be seen mainly in the background.

Es scheint so als liebte ich Kuchen in jeder Form und Farbe. Für die Kirschen im Kuchen konnte ich mal viele verschiedene Rot- und Pinktöne verwenden. Das Papier, das ich benutzt habe war relativ rauh. Das sieht man vor allem im Hintergrund.
