YELLOW TO RED
Today was playing around with the yellow to red colours of the little set I was testing for some time now and above all the ruby red of the set is quite a strong colour. What a colour explosion with several layers. The dark lines are made with a mix of red violet and umbra.
Heute habe ich mich mit den Gelb- und Rottönen aus dem kleinen Set, das ich seit einiger Zeit teste beschäftigt. Vor allem die Farbe Rubinrot ist eine extrem starke Farbe. Was für eine Farbexplosion, wenn die Farben in mehreren Schichten aufgetragen werden. Die dunklen Linien sind gemischt aus Rotviolett und Umbra.

Test: Yellows & Reds
What a lovely weather we have in February. This was to reason for us to spend our AIM-Thursday (= "everything-is-possible-thursday") late afternoon outside. A lot of sunshine and 5°C. For our drawing session Silvie and I wear double trousers and very warm jackets so we were able to sit outside close to Johanneskirche and sketch (and chat of course). After half an hour the sun went away and it became cold. I hurried to finish, but did not manage to do the houses in the background. Time for a coffee.
Was für ein tolles Wetter wir diesen Februar haben. Für uns war das ein Grund unseren AIM-Donnerstag Spätnachmittag draussen zu verbringen - wir hatten Sonne und 5°C. Für unsere Malaktion hatten Silvie und ich dicke Kleidung angezogen und so war es möglich, dass wir mit Sitzkissen ausgerüstet aussen vor der Johanneskirche malen (und natürlich auch reden) konnten. Nach einer halben Stunde war dann die Sonne aber auch wieder weg und es wurde bissig kalt. Wir beeilten uns mit den Bildern. Ich hab die Häuser im Hintergrund nicht mehr malen können. Jetzt ist erstmal Zeit für einen Kaffee.

BLUE BLUE BLUE
Still testing the same watercolours. Today I am looking at the blue colours. The blues are very bright and nice. The Cerulean ist a bit lighter than the Schmincke one (which is the one I usually use.) and in mixes it has a whitening manner - sort of milky but the pure colour looks almost like Manganese.
Above all the ultramarine is great.
I had to let dry about three times in between. It is worth for the brightness of the colours. Some minor granulation in all of the blues I used and the watercolour can do its magic.
BLAU BLAU BLAU
Bin noch immer am testen derselben Farben. Heute schaue ich mir mal die Blautöne an. Sie sind sehr leuchtend und mir gefallen sie sehr gut. Das Cerulean ist heller, als bei Schmincke. In Mischungen habe ich den Eindruck, dass es etwas milchig wird. (das Cerulean von Schmincke mag ich am übrigens am Liebsten). Vor allem das Ultramarin ist gut.
Ich hab die Farben ca. drei Mal zwischendrin trocknen lassen, aber mehrere Lasuren bringen die Leuchtkraft besser hervor. Die Blautöne, die ich verwendet habe granulieren alle ein wenig, da zeigt sich die Magie der Aquarellfarben.

GREEN GREEN GREEN
In Funchal opposite the harbour with CR7 Museum is the beautiful Santa Catarina Garden. The bougainvillea bloom is great and their colour is extremely bright. I did the watercolour again as a test of the watercolours I am about to try for a few days now. If you read a few posts back you can see my setup and the names of the colours. The only colour I joined to them was the bright pink colour (Opéra) which is from Sennelier as it came closer to the real colour of the bloom.
As you probably already noticed my challenge today was to test the different greens and mix them.
GRÜN GRÜN GRÜN
In Funchal gegenüber des Hafens mit dem CR7 Museum liegt der schöne St. Catarina Garten. Die Bougainvilleen fallen in Kaskaden am Felsen nach unten und die Farben sind sehr leuchtend. Das Aquarell selbst habe ich wieder mit denselben Farben, wie in den letzten Tagen gemalt. Die Farbaufstellung liegt zwei Tage zurück (siehe Post vom 22.02.). Nur das Pink (Opéra) der Bougainvilleen ist eine Farbe von Sennelier, denn die kam näher an die tatsächliche Farbe der Blüten heran.
Meine heute selbst gestellte Aufgabe war es die verschiedenen Grüntöne der Farben zu testen und zu mischen.

My todays watercolour shows another street scene in Funchal and the special about it is that I used some of my white nights tube watercolours which I began to use a few days ago after a longer time I did not touch them. I admit, that I rarely use them and always wanted to explore more.
As I already stated in other posts, the greens are a bit unnatural without mixing, but my goal was to see the real nature of the colours. Today is different - usually I mix a lot more. For my research pure colours are required today.
I began like that: I prepared a small wooden chocolate box with 16 empty big pans and filled them with the colours I thought would make sense for me - as I have a larger set I left out some of them (I indicated colour names, opacity etc. on the lid of the filled box - click to enlarge). I still need a fitting white mixing space, but I am already searching for that... So this is a very small kit with I guess about 12 x 9 cm. Time will tell if it will be good for sketching outside as the wooden container is not leak-proof.
If you made some similar palettes please let me have your comments, if they work for you or send me some pictures. I know for example that a friend of mine uses old maquillage sets for her small on the go colours.
Mein heutiges Aquarell zeigt eine Straßenszene in Funchal und das Besondere daran ist, dass ich heute mal die White Nights Aquarellfarben benutzt habe, die ich lange Zeit nicht nutzte. In den letzten Tagen habe ich bereits damit rumexperimentiert, aber aus Zeitgründen hatte ich meinen Plan eine kleine Palette aus Tubenfarben herzustellen noch nicht umgesetzt. So jetzt aber... Ich habe die Farben im Bild pur verwendet, da ich die tatsächlichen Farbtöne sehen wollte, bevor es ans Mischen geht. Die Farben sind leuchtend und besonders die Grüntöne wirken etwas unnatürlich, aber das war ja der Plan. Mischen ist im Moment zweitrangig.
Ich begann folgendermassen: Eine kleine Holzbox mit 16 leeren, grossen Näpfchen wurden mit den Farben aus meinem Tubenset gefüllt, die ich für sinnvoll erachtete, denn insgesamt habe ich mehr als 16 Farben. (die Namen der Farben, die Lichtechtheit, Transparenz, etc. habe ich auch aufgeschrieben und können durch anklicken vergrössert angesehen werden). Jetzt brauche ich nur noch eine weisse Mischpalette, aber danach suche ich noch... Das Set ist ziemlich klein und hat eine Grösse von ca. 12 x 9 cm. Mit der Zeit werde ich wissen, ob es sich fürs Malen draussen eignet, denn die Holzschachtel sieht zwar schön aus, ist aber leider nicht auslaufsicher.
Falls ihr auch schoneinmal eine Palette selbst gemacht habt, beschreibt sie im Kommentar oder schickt mir eure Bilder dazu. Zum Beispiel habe ich eine Freundin, die ihre Farben (fürs-draussen-malen) in ein kleines, leeres Schminkset gefüllt hat.
