Mood of the day sketch - My Aunt

 

Lately I began my third "mood of the day" sketchbook, which is like an every day sketching fun for me. The storks you saw two days ago are on the next side. I actually forgot to post the first side. 

While visiting my aunt, I had the fun of sketching her. We sat outside in front of her house and had a nice chat on a sunny day.

Vor kurzem habe ich mein drittes "mood of the day" Skizzenbuch begonnen. Bisher hatte ich Spaß fast täglich einen kurzen Eintrag zu machen. Die Störche von vorgestern sind auf der nächsten Seite, denn ich habe doch tatsächlich die erste Seite vergessen zu posten.

Während ich meine Tante besuchte, hatte ich Spaß sie zu skizzieren. Wir saßen bei schönem Wetter vor ihrem Haus und unterhielten uns.

Mood of the day sketch - Süsse Sachen

 

Just a small sketch today of my sweets I love to eat with an extra hot cup of espresso. Fantastic and the little almond cakes remind me of Sicily. Dreaming is possible. Have a lovely Pentecost weekend.

Nur eine kleine Skizze von meinen süssen Sachen, die ich zum extraheißen, duftenden Espresso dazuesse. Fantastisch. Die kleinen Mandelkekse erinnern mich an Sizilien. Ein bischen Träumen is ja möglich. Schönes Pfingstwochenende.

Rapsfeld 4 in 2021

 

What is different in working on white paper or on toned, like I did in this rape field sketch. Here I used a bit of white gouache in the sky and on the stems of the rape flowers. I wanted to know if there is too much of a difference. On toned paper you need several more washes to get to quite intese colours. The result is a bit more vibrant in my opinion. Again a lot of fun with those yellow fields.

Was ist der Unterschied, wenn man ein Rapsfeld auf weissem oder einem braunen Papier malt? Hier habe ich es mal auf dem getönten Papier ausprobiert und nutzte ein wenig weisse Gouache im Himmel und an den Stielen der Rapspflanzen, ausserdem habe ich die Aquarellfarben in mehrfachen Farbaufträgen verwendet, damit die Farben knalliger werden. Das Ergebnis ist irgendwie plakativer und kraftvoller. Hat grossen Spass gemacht.

Mood of the day sketch - colours in a glass

 

How do you store your colours? Mine are stored in glasses, divided by colour family. In this direct watercolour sketch the glass got a bit wonky, I did not use a preliminary drawing nor did I care anyway. Just wanted to do a fast sketch. For that reason I mixed different colour tubes into a glass (which I usually don't do in my usual storage as for easier colour finding the colours are separated by colour family). My sketchbook paper is toned, that is why I needed a white gouache colour as well.

Wie sortiert ihr eure Farben normalerweise? Meine sind nach Farben sortiert, gut verschlossen in Gläsern. Meine direkte Aquarellskizze zeigt eines der Gläser. Es ist ein wenig krumm geworden, aber da ich nicht vorgezeichnet habe, kann das schon mal passieren. Egal. Wichtig ist eine schnelle Skizze. Als Motiv habe ich die Farbtuben im Glas gemischt (das tue ich normalerweise nicht, denn die Farben sind bei mir ja nach Farbfamilie sortiert). Mein Skizzenbuch-Papier ist hellbraun, weshalb ich hier und da ein wenig weiss brauchte.

Mood of the day sketch - little anemones

 

In a corner of my garden I see a few anemones coming each year and I already sketched them a few times. This is my this years fast sketch of them. They seem to like the place below a hedge.

In einer Gartenecke kommen jedes Jahr kleine blaue Anemonen zum Vorschein. Die habe ich bereits mehrmals gemalt. Hier eine schnelle Skizze für dieses Jahr. Die Anemonen scheinen den geschützten Platz vor der Hecke zu mögen.

Mood of the day sketch - cold sun

 

I painted this sketch mid april and the weather was really cold, but it was sunny. This is a place which is close to Rossfeld and the railroad track is to the right behind the greenery.

Diese Sizze habe ich mitte April gemalt, als das Wetter echt noch kalt war, aber die Sonne hat hervorgelugt. Dieser Platz befindet sich bei Roßfeld, die Bahntrasse zur Rechten, direkt hinter dem Gebüsch.

My first "mood of the day sketchbook" is now on youtube. It is a brown toned watercolour sketchbook and I painted mainly with watercolours and a tiny bit of gouache here and there. As we were still in lockdown at that time in February 2021 it is a sketchbook of my close surroundings and therefore quite personal.
