Sketch Marathon Prague - The day after...

 

I have to admit that the day after the famous Sketch Marathon I was really done. If you have read my earlier posts, you might know that we met for a final breakfast for ending the marathon. Although I could not stay awake all night and slept a bit, after breakfast I just wanted to sleep and did not feel comfortable. 

We went back to the hotel to relax. Our friends from Poznan, Justyna and Piotr texted meanwhile, if we would come for lunch. Good idea ... I am always hungry. After a bit of sleep we went to the beautiful restaurant they chose, right to river Moldau (with a view!!!) and we had a very good eat and sketch session there.

My sketch turned out a bit pale, but I had to stop, as again the beautiful meal arrived (...this seems to happen all the time).

After some time in the city we headed to Grand Café Orient (...which is one of my favourites, with the cubist interior...), where I did my unfinished sketch of the greenish cushions and lamps. The waiters were as fun as ever, making a show, while serving the cake and we had a very good time.

Then it was time to say goodbye. 

I was still feeling a bit dizzy...no dinner that day...only sleep...

Sketch Marathon Prague 2021- The day before... Café Hopping and Sketching with friends

 

The day before Sketch Marathon Prague, we had a breakfast date with a very good sketching friend of mine: Isaac Cordova. We have already sketched together on several occasions and this time he chose a very noble location to meet, which was Café Imperial in Prague. This is only my second visit to this beautiful place. The walls and ceiling are covered with tiles and it is really worth a visit. We had two hours for breakfast and sketching, before he had to leave for work.

 

Very good times and nice art talks. Isaac did a fantastic artwork with a very cool portrait of me while we were there. In any case, have a look at: @elartista777

My sketch is more simple, but I had fun and good food, which is important and a good base for what would come...

Then later in the day, we met with our sketching friends from Plzen: Jana and Standa. Jana came from watercolour class and as we were a bit hungry, we had a late dinner at Café Platyz. Later a stroll through Prague and then we had coffee and cake at Café Louvre.

The colours and interior were extremely different from the other cafés and I finally could use my pink colours, which I usually use for flowers or the like. While Jana sketched her Sacher tart, I made this quick watercolour sketch of the interior.

Then we had to say goodbye to them and hurried further for our first meeting of the participants of the sketch marathon (which was to happen the next day). 

Btw. that was the last page in my Karlsbad/Prague sketchbook...

At dinner I started my new watercolour sketchbook with a portrait sketch of Piotr which was never finished, as the meal arrived...

Thank you friends for having had time for us. It was such a pleasure meeting you again.

Sketch Marathon Prague 2021 (part two)

 

 

The invitation to the residence of the Turkish Ambassador Egemen Bağış was a real nice and relaxing session. We could sketch inside or in the garden. I did both. I started outside to get a good view of the beautiful residence and later went inside to sketch part of the interior.

 

 

The two hours of sketching passed so fast, but we had the chance to spend one more hour to discuss our art with the Ambassador. Coffee, pastry and fantastic turkish coffee as well as black tea were served and we had a very good time. 

 

Then we went by train to Café Platýz for dinner. The crazy ones sketched on the way. Then I did a fast after dinner sketch of Adam

 

 

From 8pm we had the chance to see an amazing performance in Jazz Club Reduta.

I sketched in the beginning, before the music started.

 

Then the lights went off and I could not finish the people I wanted to sketch from the audience. You can see that you can't see anything anymore...

It was around midnight as most of the sketchers gave up. For the remaining the night was challenging. After midnight they sketched quickly on the bridge most Legií. Then they went to some restaurant and a club. Around 3am only three people continued with a sketchwalk 

 

 

We all met back at 8 am for breakfast at Obecní dům, where I did another watercolour portrait sketch. This time it was one of Justyna @wojnowskajustyna

 

Three people made it without sleeping which were Marta Rogalska, Adam Topór @ adamu_akkusu and the organizer Jan Vitek @janvitekart. Thank you Jan for this fantastic international event.

 

 

The weather has been challenging during the marathon with 12 degrees during the day and 2 degrees at night but we all had fun and it was absolutely worth the effort, as we all met so many cool people, became a load of new inspiration and an amazing number of beautiful artworks came to birth.

Sketch Marathon Prague 2021 (part one)

 

Prague Marathon - by invitation only - So lucky that my friend Jan Vitek invited me to this exceptional and very well planned event. 

Here are some of the artists (two are missing)

 

 

We started on Saturday, Oct 16 with an 8am breakfast, then started our mission which meant that we tried to do 24 hours of constantly sketching. We changed locations every couple of hours. This meant that we did not have much time for each sketching session. We were 18 sketching participants plus a few more people who made photographs and videos plus one assistant. In total 24 people.

 

We started in Café Obecní dům for breakfast at 8am. 

Here I did my first sketch of the day of @amjakubek and @janvitek.art :

 

 

I tried another one (of Jakob @jakob.falling), but did not finish, as breakfast arrived:

 

After the cosy cafe visit it was time to sketch outside. Jan organised a sketchwalk through Prague center with fast 20 minute sketches, we stopped at Old Town Square. Here I wanted to sketch a horse carriage, but it was cold and my colours did not dry at all...the lack of time did not make it better...

 

 

Then we hurried further to Charles Bridge. With two others of the group I made my way through the crowds of tourists to the other side to sketch the end of the bridge. This time with inkpen, as we only had 15 min. left. I believe that with inkpen I am much faster, but the watercolour is more fun.

 

 

The crowds of sketchers came and we went up to the huge Prague Castle. 

We had lunch in a restaurant in Hradčanské náměstí, which was nice and cosy and which definitely was one of my best lunches in Prague.

 

 

Finally in the warmth, at first I did a sketch of Joao Albergaria 

( @joaopauloalbergaria ) which actually is my favourite so far and then later another one of our friend Robert who sat opposite.
