As I told you yesterday, I took my new, beautiful, blue Pentalic Aqua Journal with me into the black forest and I drew all the "direct watercolour" drawings of the week-end into it. I knew that I would draw a lot of portraits on this occasion and the size of the book was great.
I was so happy and curious about this book. Now I have mixed feelings about the binding quality of the beautiful blue Pentalic Aqua Journal:
Negative: When I first opened the Pentalic Aqua Journal the first page instantly fell apart...(the pages are only glued and if you turn them they fall out. I am not happy about that because if I buy a sketchbook it should remain a book not loose sheets).
Positive: I love the looks of the book and the strap around it and the best are the excellent quality watercolour papers inside and there is a pouch in the back. The size is perfect for portraits, the surface white and smooth and the colour comes out the way I like it.
Conclusion: I am not sure if I will buy it again as I prefer perfectly bound sketchbooks. The paper quality convinced me absolutely and therefore that would be the perfect thing. All in all I think Pentalic should work on quality binding instead of glueing. I would definitely buy it again if the binding would be better. Auf meinem Schwarzwald - Trip habe ich mein neues, superschönes, blaues Pentalic Aqua Journal mitgenommmen und alle meine "direkten Aquarelle" am Wochenende in dieses Journal gemalt. Ich wusste ich würde einige Portraits zu dieser Gelegenheit malen und freute mich auf das neue Buch im nahezu quadratischen Format. Jetzt habe ich aber ein wenig gemischte Gefühle und erzähle euch mal die Pro's und Con's
Contra: Als ich das Buch geöffnet habe fiel sofort die erste Seite aus dem Buch. Als ich die nächsten Seiten öffnete lösten sich auch diese und so weiter und so weiter. Ich hatte lauter Einzelseiten in der Hand. Die Seiten wurden nur (schlecht) geklebt und nicht gebunden. Wenn ich ein Skizzenbuch kaufe, dann möchte ich gerne auch ein Buch haben und keine Einzelseiten.
Pro: Das Buch sieht toll aus mit dem blauen Einband und dem Gummizug und das Aquarellpapier innen ist wirklich sehr gut. Also von der Papierqualität her ist es hervorragend und die Seitengrösse und das Format sind perfekt für Portraits und so weiss und glatt, wie ich es für diese Anwendung passend finde. Die Farben kommen brillant darauf raus und das Papier verzeiht tatsächlich auch kleine Fehler, die man mit viel Wasser locker wieder abnehmen kann. Im hinteren Bereich befindet sich wie bei vielen anderen Skizzenbüchern eine Tasche.
Mein Fazit: Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich das Skizzenbuch nochmal kaufen würde, solange die Probleme mit der Papierbindung noch bestehen, jedoch die Papierqualität hat mich absolut überzeugt.
