MALTA: Dolmen - St. Julian's - Valletta

 

The evening before, I arrived in Malta. Next day I start with my Dolmen sketch in Bugibba. The Dolmen are stones and said to be the remains of an ancient temple. 

From there I continue my trip through Malta along the coastline to the nice harbour of St. Julian's, where I do an unfinished sketch of a shipyard close to a real nice café, from where I had a good view.

Then I reach Sliema and from there it is not far to a cafe directly by the sea, which I know from other travels to this place.

 

Then finally I reach Valletta, where I do some sightseeing and later relax in a side street to sketch

Some people around were eating noodles at a chinese Restaurant. Not many tourists here compared to former years.

 

In the evening I ended up hiding in a café from the strong winds sketching the palm trees on a double spread...very tired already...

 

Malta, Bugibba

Bugibba with its hotels and the long promenade along the coast is a vast tourist quarter. If you see the fishermen's garages with the blue gates beneath the promenade you could imagine the fishermen sitting there chatting and mending their nets. Nowadays there are Cafés and palm trees along the site and not many boats are seen in early spring. I sit and draw from across the bay on my comfortable seat on the beach.

Bugibba mit seinen Hotelbauten und seiner langen Strandpromenade ist ein grosses Touristenviertel. Man kann sich die alten Zeiten durchaus noch vorstellen, als die Fischer vor den blaugestrichenen Toren der Fischergaragen unterhalb der Strandpromenade ihre Netze flickten. Nun sind die Strandkneipen und Palmen am Meer entlang aufgereiht und nur wenige Fischerboote sind so früh im Jahr zu sehen. Zum Zeichnen sitze ich genau auf der anderen Seite der halbrunden Bucht am Strand.

Malta, Pirate's Bay, Bugibba

  


















Bugibba is a sympathetic, but touristic place. A lot of hotels are located there and the walkway along the sea is good for a stroll along the coastline. My drawing shows a part of the bight in front of the hotels from my comfortable seat at Café Parrot. I did not finish this one as I went for sightseeing and exploring more of St. Paul's Bay.

Bugibba, der quirlige, touristisch geprägte Ort. Hotels reihen sich an der Bucht aneinander, eine Promenade lädt zum flanieren ein. Mein Bild zeigt einen Teil der Bucht, die den Hotels vorgelagert ist vom komfortablen Strandcafé Parrot aus. Bin leider nicht fertig geworden, weil es ja noch so viel zu sehen gibt an der St. Paul's Bay.
