The Cake

In my local bakery I often order this kind of cake. This time I drew it.

In meiner lokalen Bäckerei bestelle ich oft diesen besonderen Zopf. Jetzt habe ich ihn zur Abwechslung gemalt.

Watercolour portrait sketch: Lady with straw hat

The Derwent Inktense dark purple pencil (Amsterdam Goodie Bag) was my todays great interest and I took it to do the preliminary drawing to this portrait. Playing with this new pencil was a welcome surprise. Being a bit thicker than my normal pencils it ran very smooth over the paper letting a lot of bright dark purple colour. As I laid my first layer of watercolour I found out that it was watercolourable which made nice shadow effects on the paper. A different  look compared to my other portraits and I like the shadowing effect of this pencil.
