At the edge of San Vito lo Capo you find that little chappel within a sea of wildflowers. It is the chapel of holy Creszentia and dates from the 16 century. Wild fennel is spread along the way with large yellow inflorescences and the hinterland with its mountains can be seen in the background. I used lots of yellow ocre, siena and other earth tones for this one. I tried a new to me colour, which is buff titanium DS. You can see this chalkish tone in the landscape here and there. It is a rather opaque watercolour a bit like naples yellow from the consistency side, but tends more to have a more chalk-greyish-white tone. I will test how to best use it.
Am Rande von San Vito lo Capo kann man diese kleine Kapelle aus dem 16. Jhd. inmitten eines Meeres aus Wildblumen besuchen. Es ist die Kapelle der heiligen Kreszentia und ist noch sehr gut erhalten. Der hohe, wilde Fenchel, den es hier überall gibt leuchtet mit seinen hellgelben Blütenständen und das Hinterland mit den Bergen ist in zurückhaltenden Farben im Hintergrund zu sehen. Für die Kapelle habe ich sehr viel ocker, siena und andere Erdtöne verwendet. Eine für mich neue Farbe habe ich auch verwendet und das ist das Buff Titanium DS - eine Art naturweiss/beige, das man in der Landschaft im Vordergrund hier und da sehen kann. Die Farbe ist eher deckend und verhält sich ein wenig wie Neapelgelb, aber es ist eher ein kalkig-naturweisser Farbton. Ich muss noch ein paar Tests damit machen, damit ich besser einschätzen kann, wie die Farbe einsetzbar ist.
My todays trip goes to San Vito Lo Capo and after a very good breakfast we headed to the hilly inland of Sicily with lots of marble quarries on the way.
San Vito lo Capo is a city in the northwest of Sicily with a very beautiful bight and Monte Monaco to the side behind. The church looks somehow arabic and dates from the 15th century. The harbour is nice to visit as well and there is a big lighthouse a bit farther out behind the harbour.
From my seat at the pasticceria I can see the lighthouse and part of the beach. First I thought how nice if the cars moved, but then I decided to draw them and thought that they should stay at least till I am finished.
In my drawing the lighthouse can be seen between the building to the left and the big white car (...it is far away...this is a bit like searching for the mouse - here it is searching for the lighthouse...;0).
It was worth coming here as the water looks as blue and turquoise as in the Caribbean and the beach is really beautiful. I wish I could stay longer.
Mein heutiger Ausflug soll nach San Vito lo Capo gehen. Nach einem üppigen Frühstück fahren wir durchs hügelige Inland von Sizilien mit vielen Marmor-Steinbrüchen auf dem Weg.
San Vito lo Capo ist eine Stadt im Nordwesten von Sizilien mit einer schönen grossen Bucht und dem Hausberg Monte Monaco. Die Kirche im Ort sieht irgendwie arabisch aus und stammt aus dem 15. Jhd. Der Hafen ist auch ein schöner Ort und ein grosser weisser Leuchtturm liegt etwas entfernt hinter dem Hafen.
Von meinem Sitzplatz in der Pasticceria aus kann ich ein Stück Strand und den Leuchtturm sehr weit hinten sehen und am Anfang dachte ich noch, es wäre toll, wenn die Autos endlich wegfahren würden und die volle Sicht freigeben würden, aber als ich dann begann sie mit in meiner Zeichnung zu verewigen, habe ich mir gewünscht, dass sie erst wegfahren, wenn ich zumindest die Umrisse fertig habe. Das hat ja dann zum Glück auch geklappt.
In meiner Zeichnung kann man in der Ferne den Leuchtturm zwischen dem Gebäude links und dem weissen Bus entdecken (...er ist sehr weit weg...also ist es ein wenig, wie die Suche nach der Maus - hier ist es nun die Suche nach dem Leuchtturm...;0).
Es hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt hierher zu fahren, denn das Meer sieht hier blau und türkis aus - fast karibisch und der Strand ist wunderschön. Ich wünschte ich könnte länger bleiben.
