Sketchtour Dinkelsbühl - sketch inside the cathedral

This is one thing we did among other things while on sketchtour Dinkelsbühl: Sketching inside the cathedral St. Georg while there was an organ concert.
Btw, I am not in the right order with reporting about the sketchtour, but I was quite impressed about the music which was some sort of rock music on the large old organ in cathedral St. Georg in Dinkelsbühl.

The master of the organ (cantor of Dinkelsbühl Volker Oertel) watched us from above and said that we should let the music flow into our paintings and this is what we did. For me it was quite challenging as the ceiling was somehow complicated. The whole perspective was not easy as well.

I tried to be prepared with keeping in mind my rudimentary perspective knowing (I am no architect) and I am not a great measurer. So usually I paint intuitively...

In order not to mess up, I tried to think about the following in advance:

- where is my vanishing point (the VP is on the EL)
- where is my eyelevel (EL)
- how can I simplify shapes
- where are my lights and darks

This always helps me to structure my thoughts before I begin a drawing like this.

The concert kept going about half an hour and we stayed a few moments longer to be able to finish. The others did amazing drawings, like Jana did a holy person with a bible, a dove and a walking stick which I very much liked. Have a look at it here on FB. (If anyone of you knows about who this holy guy is and what he represents, pls. let us know in the comments section.)

That was really a fulfilling experience for different senses.

Here is Jans interpretation of the church surroundings: HERE on FB
