Today I am testing the coloured pencils I ordered a few days ago.
6 pencils are from Caran d'Ache (I would use them for nightsketching and seascapes and probably winter scenes)

These Pablo permanent colours are not water-colourable.
- I tried them using a blue watercolour over the first row of colours.
- The second row is the plain colour of the pencil
- Third row is showing if it can cover an ink line (...which the dark tones
actually can.)
The tips glide very well over the paper and the colours can be intermixed on the paper. They are not dominant if you use them as a finish or an addition into a watercolour drawing.
I would also use them instead of a usual pencil for preliminary drawing as a preparation for a watercolour.
The Derwent lightfast colours are different. They are kind of oily and cover more of the line and they seem very soft, the pigments are rich and quite intense.
I intend to use them also preferably in night sketches or if vibrant colours are needed.
As you can see
- in the first row if watercolour is put on top they repell the watercolour (like wax does)
- in the second row you see the plain colour
- in the third row you can see that the darker colours also cover the ink line
I definitely like both kind of coloured pencils...maybe the Caran d'Ache a bit better as they glide even a bit softer over the paper and are quite good for preliminary coloured pencil drawing for watercolour sketching...and what I like very much is that they seldomly break! (please try for yourself and note that this is my very personal opinion)
