USk Hohenlohe in Neidenfels

After extreme rainfalls we are now in a period of nice weather. This was the first day as it becomes warmer again and nice to get out sketching. Although it was on short notice that I arranged a sketchmeet in Neidenfels, Andrea came and later Wolfgang joined with his bike. 

First I thought, that painting the river would be fun, as we are close to river Jagst, but no shade and no comfy place to sit, so we agreed to sketch on this small street, shaded by the surrounding trees. It turned out that it was a good place. We met bikers, a pilgrim to Santiago and two or three cars in the time we where there. Andrea made a black and white "Dürer-like" beautiful pencil drawing and thanks to her I have a picture of me drawing on my seat with my A3 watercolour sketchbook. 

When Wolfgang arrived with his bike we were nearly ready to leave. He told us that there is a brewery beergarden closeby and there we went as we all did not meet since the lockdown in the month of March. 

My watercolour shows a little part of this tiny village of Neidenfels in the valley as well as the castle (Schloss Burleswagen) on top of the hilly green region. There is an old stone bridge if you  make a right turn from the position I am sitting at. The bridge is so narrow that only one car can drive over it at once. On the left side of my painting there is a stone wall. The stone in this area is quite famous and called "Crailsheimer Muschelkalk".

Nach den starken Regenfällen in den Tagen zuvor war an diesem Tag wieder der Beginn einer Schönwetterphase und ich setzte kurzfristig ein Maltreffen an. Obwohl es so knapp vorher durchgegeben wurde, sagte Andrea zu und wir trafen uns in Neidenfels. Zuerst dachte ich es wäre super an der Brücke bzw. am Fluss (Jagst) zu malen, aber es stellte sich heraus, dass es keinen guten Platz im Schatten gab. Ein komfortabler Platz in einer Seitenstraße mit wenig Verkehr war da schon besser. Wir saßen im Schatten von Bäumen. Fahrradfahrer, ein Pilger und nur wenige Autos kamen vorbei. Andrea machte eine Bleistift Zeichnung (...sah Dürer-mässig gut aus!). Sie hat mir netterweise das Foto zur Verfügung gestellt auf dem ich mit meinem A3 Aquarellskizzenbuch beim Malen bin.

Als Wolfgang dann mit dem Fahrrad vorbeikam, waren wir bereits fast mit den Bildern fertig. Er erzählte, dass in der Nähe ein Biergarten zu finden sei und das war dann unser nächstes Ziel. Wir hatten uns seit dem Lockdown im März nicht mehr gesehen und es gab so vieles zu bereden.

Mein Bild oben zeigt einen kleinen Teil vom winzigen Ort Neidenfels. Im Wald hinten oben sieht man das Schloss Burleswagen in der Ferne. Es gibt auch eine schmale, alte, einspurige Steinbrücke über die Jagst. Auf der linken Seite meines Bildes sieht man eine Steinwand. Der Stein, den es hier in der Gegend gibt ist berühmt und nennt sich "Crailsheimer Muschelkalk".
