Sicily Sketchbook - Teatro de Segesta

If you would like to see the ancient teatro, you can either take the comfortable bus or do it the more sporty way and walk up the hill with beautiful views to the ancient temple on the way and the botanically extremely rich landscape. Guess what I did...yes I walked to have the full programme and inhalate the rich perfumes of all the plants around. Botanical painters could spend many days here...

As I finally came to the hilltop the teatro opens to a stunning view to the valleys below and the sea which could be seen very far in the distance. I paint my watercolour mainly with blue and the often mentioned naples yellow + a bit of yellow ocre. The colour dries very fast up here. I could sit forever...

When I walked down I discovered the big grasses of which the stems are used to create the curly pasta called Bussiatte. I already tasted it a few times and this homemade pasta is one of the best I know. Have a try with it if you are in Sicily one day. It is so good.

Wenn man das römische Amphitheater in Segesta besuchen möchte, kann man sich entweder in einen komfortablen Bus setzen und sich hoch fahren lassen, oder einen sportlichen Fußmarsch rauf zu den Ausgrabungsstätten machen. Der Weg führt durch eine botanisch reiche Gegend und es gibt viel zu sehen. Ratet mal, ob ich gefahren oder gelaufen bin...ja klar ich hab den Fußmarsch gemacht, denn ich wollte den Duft der Pflanzen und die Aussicht genießen. Botanische Maler hätten hier ihre Freude.

Als ich schließlich oben ankam hatte ich einen Wahnsinns-Blick auf die Täler und ganz in der Ferne lag das Meer. Mein Aquarell besteht hauptsächlich aus blau und dem bereits öfters erwähnten Neapelgelb und ein wenig Ocker. Die Farbe trocknet da oben unheimlich schnell. Ich könnte hier für immer sitzen und gucken...

Als ich den Berg wieder runterlief entdeckte ich die grossen Gräser, deren Halme man zum Formen der Pasta mit dem Namen Bussiatte verwendet. Ich habe diese lockigen Nudeln schon einige Male probiert und bin begeistert davon. Falls ihr mal in Sizilien seid, müsst ihr sie unbedingt mal essen. Das schmeckt so gut.
